On Friday we
walked down to meet an author called Dave Rudden. He was really funny.Dave
started by telling us about his book Night Of The Borrowed Dark,Forever Court
and The End Cave .He read us a chapter from Night Of The Borrowed .Dave had a
power point on tips on how to right a book. They were really helpful
tips .Dave told us some funny stories about his friends.At the end
we got to ask some questions. He said they had to be about crisps,beards
and his books.Noah got a free signed book of his novel .Noah asked 'Would you shave
your beard for charity .Before we left we got a photo with him .
Spelling Bee
On the third of
May 2017 I competed in a spelling bee, I was so nervous on the way to the
school where it was being held in but when we got there all my
nervousness went away. I got through about five or six rounds but sadly didn't
make it into the final.
Even though I didn't win we still got goody bags and we went home with our heads held
high.
GYMNASTICS
BLOG
St.Tiarnach's
school has been doing gymnastics for eight weeks.We learned how to do cart
wheels,splits,handstands,forward roles and stretches.At the last week they
brought an air track which is a long bouncy castle.We did forward roles tuck
jumps buckaroos and flips.We had great fun doing the gymnastics.

Making butter
Today our class made butter.First we got jars and put fresh cream into them then we shook the jars.Each person at our table got a turn.After a while the cream started to clump together and eventually we made butter.We got crackers for us to put the butter on,but everyone decided to have nutella instead.We had a great day.

Ceol Choirim
On the 15th of March the whole school had a Ceolchoirm and parents were invited to come watch. We had a ceol group , singing , dancing , poems and a drama. It went live on the Clones Notice Boards. We hope you enjoyed it

5k race
Today our class went down to see largy do their 5k race. We cheered them on as they went by. Unfortunatley it started to rain .Everyone did very well

National tree week
People from Apple Green came to plant a tree with us for national tree week. The tree looked a bit like a stick. Afterwards they gave us sandwiches ,water and fruit . It was a great day !

Boys Soccer
Last Wedesday 8 boys from my class went to Gortakeegan for a soccer blitz.We played Scoil Eaina and beat them 7 nil. Next we played Scoil Ultain and beat them 4-2.So we are off to the final on the 5th of April.

Na Trí Mhuc Bheaga
5th and 6th classes had done an Irish drama called "Na Trí Mhuc Bheaga". We went to the Garage Theatre .It was fun to act .We got a plaque . WELL DONE EVERYONE!!!!!!

This week 5th and 6th class did some
French knitting and Abbie, Abigail, Molly, Annabel and Samanta weaved them into a shamrock that teacher made and it turned out really good.

Lot's to Celebrate in 6th Class
Abbie Mc Donald Boyle won the Joe Flynn cup at the Killeeven Gymnastics competition. Abbie did extremely and scored the highest score of the whole competition. The whole class is very happy for her.
Clones Town Under 13's team won the cup final on Sunday. They beat Killough by 4 goals. Well done boys!!!!
Mend a Mind
After Mend a Mind we discussed some of the words associated with mindfulness and here is what me came up with

Landscapes inspired by Arman.
In art 6th class were looking at an artist called Arman. We looked at his art work and decided to use some of his ideas and we made art pieces called landscapes.The landscapes were made of scrap paper and took a while to make but 6th class worked and got these magnificent pieces of art work.
Spelling Bee
6th class are participating in a Spelling Bee competition. There is a game that we play it is called sparkle. It helps us with our spellings. We will keep you updated on how we get on with the competition.
Weather Projects
In 6th class we are learning about weather, while learning about the subject we are writing projects about different types of weather. Many people are writing about hurricanes and a few are writing about floods. It is a really fun subject to learn about and you can find out about how weather works, where and why they are formed. we had to ask questions about our projects and it was really fun and we all had a great time.
Mend a Mind
On the 15th of Febuary 4th year from Largy College came in to do a few activities for positive mental health.We did yoga which as really relaxing and calm. After yoga we did some mindfulness colouring and made hand prints . We did dancing by the song of Ed Sheeran "Shape of You" which everyone enjoyed!We all had fun and enjoyed the afternoon!
Christmas decorations.
In school we made Christmas decorations for a competition.
We could go in groups of two or on your own.
The marterials we brought in were cereal boxes,bottles,socks,toilet rolls,books
and other things.
A lot of them were very good.
Some people made angels, snowmen,snow globes,reindeer and santas.
The winners of the competition from our class were Marc,Lydia,Samanta
Magnet Powered Boats
In school we made magnet powered boats.
We had to get in to groups and had to bring in materials.
Some people brought in bottles,sticks,milk cartons and other things.
We had to try and make a boat that could not sink and was moved by magnets.
After we had to design them.
Then tested them and whatever one did not sink won.
Most of them did not sink.
It was very good and most people enjoyed it.
Tom Palmer
On the 30th of November we went down to the library to meet Tom Palmer .
He has written over forty books with nearly 500 different characters .
In school we read one of his books Foul Play 1 .We all really enjoyed the book .We done a quiz and it was great fun ,if you got a question right then you try to throw a piece of paper into the bin .In the end if there were two people left they would throw again and then there was a winner .
I think the book is very good .

Science
A few weeks ago we went to the library where we talked about water
pollution. We were shown pictures of clean and dirty water.
Some of the pictures included oil on water, white fungus and dirty, polluted water.
The presentation also showed pictures of the bugs and fish that live in clean and dirty water. Afterwards we looked at some tools used to clean the water and
a video clip showing how they clean the water to help the environment.

Mend A Mind
The Mend A Mind team in Largy college hosted a competition for 5th and 6th class.You had to make up a slogan or a poem about mental health on a piece of paper and decorate the page.There are twelve winners and if your slogan or poem wins it will be put on a calendar.It was a very fun thing to do.

Snowflakes
This week we have begun our Christmas art by making paper snowflakes.
We got some white paper and folded them into triangle shapes and cut some slits in
the triangles. After a process of cutting and gluing they were complete!
We then experimented with other Christmas colors and they turned out great!

Shields
We recently made shields with icons and symbols that describe us.
We had two sheets full of ideas and little icons and drew them on paper in the shape of a shield. To add color we painted them and they looked extra fun and bright.
To finish them off we added black paper on the back of them which made the colours stand out, They turned out so pretty and unique!

Art - Drawing Insects
Over the past two weeks 6th class have been doing some Hallowe'en
art. We have drawn some spiders and ants and we really enjoyed it .
They all turned out really good . We had to shade in and lighten as we got into the
middle we also used a 6b pencil and they all look great.

Friendship
During this week 6th class had to write out a poem, slogan or a song for our
friendship lesson. We also got to decorate it.
Some people completed it in groups, while others wrote their own.
We had coloured cardboard to stick stick the poem on to. It was good fun!
